Welcome To Tracks Ahead Segment Review

These segments are for review only. All visual elements are as they will appear in the series, but the audio is unbalanced, as the Dolby 5.1 has not been created. The video clip is of lower resolution than the actual program clip. The technical reason is that one minute of HD footage in native 1080i format is approximately 2.67 Gb of data. That means that five minutes will be roughly 13.3 Gb. For a segment of 7 minutes in length, it will be 18.69 Gb in native file size. Compressed to a midrange streaming media file, the size is down to 11.5 Mb. With that much compression, you are going to lose detail and acquire picture artifacts. Commercial web servers won't handle the large file sizes, and the download times for something that big are impractical. In other words, the compressed result just isn't anywhere near as good as the original.

I will try to post mp4 versions of the new segments, to utilize tablet and smart phone technology.  I'll probably pick a size best suited for the tablets, so you smart phone users will have to bear with a slightly lengthier download.

If you have any comments, please email David Baule. If there are no comments within 7 days of notification, acceptance of the segment will be implied. No changes are possible once the final programs have been created and released into the network system.

These segments will appear for roughly 14-21 days. Then they will be removed to make space for new ones.  Enjoy!
